Philips has announced that their latest high-end sound bar the HTL5160B (catchy name!) is coming to Australia with Google Cast in tow. The Dolby Digital 3.1 sound system will retain for $699.95 AUD RRP.  The speaker has more that GoogleCast going for it.

For those into the specs of home entertainment gear the HTL5160B sports:

  • 3 x 40W speakers
  • 1 x 200 W subwoofer
  • 1 x HDM input
  • 1 x HDMI (1.4 ARC) output
  • HDMI CEC
  • 1 x Ethernet in
  • 1 x USB 2.0
  • Dolby Digital
  • Dolby pro-logic 2
  • Bluetooth aptX
  • NFC Pairing
  • GoogleCast
  • Spotify Connect

With those specifications, this looks like it might be a pretty good device for anything from streaming/ casting your music to watching the latest thing on Netflix. Tap to pair via NFC is a great feature and for those who haven’t tried it you should, I’m very happy to see it make an appearance here.

Philips also has an app to  help you configure their speakers on your network. Unfortunately, Google still hasn’t enabled 3rd party Google Cast devices to join the multi-speaker cast groups that you can have with ChromeCast devices.
