Google Play Movies has announced that you will now be able to install a native Play Movies app onto all 2016 – and presumably beyond – Samsung Smart TVs. This will let Samsung TV owners watch all of their existing content was well as browse for new content right from their TV. Considering Samsung clearly won’t be releasing an Android TV unit, ever, this is a good move by the two companies to expand the availability of content onto Samsung TVs.
Google also took the opportunity to remind people that they can also watch Play Movies in VR thanks to the Google Daydream, but considering that only works for Moto Z and Pixel owners who have a Daydream, it’s a bit of a niche market at the moment, but still cool!
Lastly Google announced that 4K content went live in the Google Play Store today, unfortunately, this one is USA only with no promise of “coming to other countries soon” included. Considering the abysmal state of the Australian Internet having 4K content on Google Play – which allows offline download and playback – would have been a great advantage. You could cue up a few movies or TV shows, let them download and then watch them without the Australian internet buffering we’ve all come to not enjoy.
Do you have any recommendations for good 4K streaming services that allow pre-aching for later playback? Let us know below.
Downloaded it on my TV last week. It’s ok, but doesn’t have auto queueing/binge mode. I find it easier to just use “My Purchases” in YouTube for the kids when they want to watch a few short episodes of their shows.
Youtube doesn’t support resolutions above 480p for a fair few movies and TV shows 🙁
I purchased “The Beach”, it’s in HD on my phone but not on youtube.
I’m only using it for short kids shows because they can’t work the remote, so no biggie for me.
