Aldi have published their specials for this week and the discount supermarket has a relatively cheap 360 camera available from this Saturday, 17th December for one week only (or whilst stock lasts) for $199.
The camera, which is branded under the Cocoon brand, does actually look similar to a couple of 360 cameras I have seen on the market and the price it is being sold for certainly in my books makes it a bargain.
So here is what we know about the camera and its features from the Aldi Australian website:
- Capture your surroundings and all the action in 360°
- Ultra-wide angle lenses
- Dual lens means360 degree viewing in all directions
- Built in Wi-Fi to view live on your smartphone
- MicroSD Card up to 64GB required (not included)
- Take high resolution photos or videos
- Convert video and upload to YouTube
- VR Mode for viewing on VR headsets
Sadly without actually owning one, this is all we know about the Cocoon 360 camera but what we do know is that products like this made available through Aldi tend to go quite fast, and I mean they are gooooone.
If you are interested or in the market for a cheap 360 camera, then you might want to have a look at this camera which is on sale from this Saturday at your local Aldi store for the price of $199.
Advert seems to be lacking the all important resolution numbers. Plus that 64GB number suggests limits on file sizes, transfer rates, etc.
Comparing with the chinese unit that this looks to be, we are saying a video resolution of 1920 x 960, which means don’t expect much detail from the result (0.2 deg per px, vs 0.02 deg for a usual smartphone video). These types of camera could really do with 8K video images, but that means more money in the processing chips, and more storage.
The price is comparable with the usual chinese price, and probably twice what it’s worth.
