Ouya - Razer
After a couple of months of speculation, as well as a possible confirmation, American computer peripheral manufacturer Razer has today confirmed that Android console maker Ouya is now a member of the Razer family.

The tweet announcing the confirmation is fairly brief, simply stating ‘Welcome to the family, @playouya.’ with the above title pic. Razer PR however have been able to further expand on the acquisition, announcing that the acquisition, which has seen the Technical and Developer relations teams join Razer, is about the software platform rather than the Ouya console itself.

Razer has announced that the Ouya platform will be migrated to the Cortex for Android TV platform which will service the Razer Forge Android TV console which is expected to launch here in Australia at EB Games and Harvey Norman later this year or early next.

The good news for Ouya owners is that Razer is looking to offer ‘deep product discounts for incoming OUYA users to purchase Razer hardware’ as well as offering ‘a spate of freebies, giveaways, and promotions to enjoy on their new Forge consoles’. Though that very well may be aimed at US only customers.

Stay tuned, we’ll have more information on the Cortex for Android TV platform when it comes as well as the Razer Forge launch here in Australia as it happens.
