Casio’s first Android Wear watch will launch in the US on the 25th of March for USD$500

Casio’s first foray into Android Wear caused a minor splash both figuratively and literally when it was announced at CES earlier this year. Buzz has been quiet on the watch since the launch, but it’s now been announced that the watch will be available on the 25th of March, but only in the US.

When it launches on the 25th of this month, the watch will be available for USD$500 from the Google Store, as well as Amazon, REI and the Casio online store. Colour options range from green, orange, black, and red models and have a pretty classic Casio look. But it won’t be easy to get, with Casio advising the watch will not be available to ship outside the US.

The WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch was a first for Casio, who had previously toyed with Bluetooth connected watches, but the WSD-F10 is their first fully fledged smart watch.

The watch is ruggedised and features most of the things you could want in an Android Wear watch, including a few nifty tricks like a dual-layer display. The dual-layer display isn’t two watch faces, instead it’s two full colour and monochrome displays layered atop each other, offering options for saving battery. The lower power monochrome display can be used when smart features and the coluor display are turned off, with Casio spruiking up to 30 days battery life.

Internal specs like processor, RAM, storage etc haven’t been announced, or listed on the Casio website. It does have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1, and an array of sensors including Pressure (air pressure, altitude) sensor, accelerometer, gyrometer, compass (magnetic) sensor – oh, and it’s built to military spec, MIL-STD810 to be specific.

So far we’ve been unable to track any international availability down for the Casio WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch, but at USD$500 it’s going to be expensive if it ever makes it to our shores. Nevertheless, if we find out something we’ll let you know.
