If you thought the TAG Heuer Connected was the most expensive Android Wear watch, Louis Vuitton would like to say ‘Hold my beer’, or my Chateau Margaux as the case may be. The Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon pricing starts in Australia at $3,450.
The Tambour Horizon may be Android Wear, but it’s more about style than anything else. There’s case and band options, as well as proprietary watch faces designed specifically for the watch, and pre-installed apps: MyFlight and City Guide – sort of flight tracker, and Yelp/FourSquare apps.
The Tambour Horizon range consists of three case styles: Graphite, Monogram and Black – with the case measuring 12.5mm thick and 42mm in diameter. The Graphite and Monogram case are a brushed stainless steel, while the Black is polished and is slightly more expensive. The case styles can be switched between 60 bands – 30 for men, 30 for women.
It looks good on the outside, but under the hood, it’s standard Android Wear fare. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage and a 300 mAh battery. The watch has a 1.2″ 390×390 resolution fully round display. There’s no mention of heart-rate monitor, GPS or other sports related sensors, but it is water resistant to 30 metres so you can at least shower or swim with it.
So, you like all this? Time to order. The base model stars with the Monogram and Graphite models with a variety of bands at $3,450 but if you want the highly polished Black model you’re looking at $4,200. Want to order online? Too bad, you’ll have to call Louis Vuitton to actually get one of these.
