The new Nexus 7 that was acquired by a lucky Reddit user has now been benchmarked every which way as well as having the internal specs of the device confirmed by the guys over at Android Police.

The specs for the new Nexus 7 which is expected to be announced in a little over 12 hours, contains many of the specs that were being rumoured, however it’s been confirmed that the tablet DOES NOT contain 4GB of RAM, instead it carries only 2GB, although that is nothing to sneeze at. So, the full specs :

  • 7″ 1920×1200 Display
  • 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 Quad-core CPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB On-board storage (a 16GB Version is expected as well)
  • Android 4.3
  • Codename : Razor

The new Nexus 7 has been run through a variety of benchmarks –
AnTuTu – 19883
Quadrant – 5501
3D Mark Ice Storm – 7188

The device is described as having a rubberised back, similar in feel to that of the Nexus 10. The offifical announcement for what we hope is the Nexus 7 as well as Android 4.3 should begin at 2am AEST tomorrow morning. Hopefully we’ll be able to pre-order it straight away.

My precious!

Brace yourselves. Used Nexus 7 eBay and Gumtree listings are coming!

Mohammad Danish

Hah just sold mine on Gumtree.

Play Store credit card details – correct. Address – current. Right, I’m off to bed, and I’ll see you all at 2 AM.

I’m still going for a 6.3″ Mega. Nearly as big, plus phone. Resolution isn’t as high, but it’s more than good enough. e.g. I’m still happy with my SGS2, so it will be a step up.

I’m still on the S2 because it is still so good and I like the size. As all the mini variants come with mid range specs they don’t interest me. Lately I’ve been considering a Xiaomi Mi2S which is only a 4.3″ screen but packs a Snapdragon 600, 32Gb, awesome camera and all for under $500. I have the current Nexus 7 and feel having the two devices suits me better. I doubt I’d comfortably fit a phablet in my pockets and I’m to vain (people still look at you funny when you have a phablet to your ear).

A comparison with the current Nexus 7 would be far more useful here. Compare apples to apples

Luke Monahan

Here’s the AnTuTu score: http://www.antutu.net/view.shtml?id=1282. Roughly 13000 versus 20000 for the new N7.

The N7 seems to get between 4000-5000 in Quadrant. Custom ROMs, kernels make this difficult to judge, but it seems the stock benchmarks fall around 4K and a little below. This is versus 5500 above.

Probably worth remembering that this is driving plenty of extra pixels — I don’t know exactly how this affects the benchmark scores — and that it’s also Android 4.3 which is meant to benchmark better for the same hardware. Apples-to-apples is probably not strictly possible yet.

Tarrant Marshall

Ah goodo – thanks Luke.

Yeah, apples-to-apples not strictly possible, but at least previous/current device. Comparing a Nexus 7 to a Desire HD (as per article screenshots) seems less useful.

I guess the question people may be asking: “is it worth upgrading” and looking for ways to justify it.

I want one, I want one now!

Piers McCarney

At the right price, I could be tempted; killer device.
