Acer has announced a number of products in the US overnight, at their next@acer Event in New York with one of the larger announcements in our space being a new Chromebook for Work.
The most recent Acer Chromebook is designed to be a work-horse built to U.S. MIL-STD 810G military standard meaning it can take a drop from a height of up to 122 cm as well as withstand both high and low temperature, high humidity, vibration and is protected from rain, sand and dust. The 14″ screen even comes with Corning Gorilla Glass to protect it.
Down to specs, the Chromebook 14 obviously has a 14″ screen which comes in either a Full HD (1920 x 1080) or HD (1366 x 768) resolution and is powered by an Intel Core processor with several configurations of RAM and Storage available. There’s either 2GB, 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of eMMC storage – obviously the price will vary based on the config, but it will start at $349 in the US and €249 in EMEA when it launches in May.
Other specs you can expect includes a USB 3.0 Type-C port that allows the fast transfer of data, audio and video up to 5Gbps, and there’s also a HDMI port to export video to a monitor or TV. There’s also dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 and the whole package crams that 14″ screen into a chasis designed for a 13″ screen which is measuring 330.9x227x22.4 mm and weighs just 1.45kg, but includes a battery capable of up to 12 hours of battery life.
Acer Australia hasn’t confirmed whether the Chromebook 14 will be arriving here in Australia and we’re still waiting on word on their last model, so stay tuned, we’ll let you know what’s happening as soon as Acer announces anything.
Any updates from Acer on availability in Au?
Nothing. Acer tend to not say anything until it’s available (and sometimes not even then).
