Owners of the Nexus Player, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are apparently experiencing an issue with their displays looking washed out when playing back video. The bug apparently causes blacks to look grey, no matter what video content is being played. The issue has been reported to Google on their Android Issue Tracker and it’s been acknowledged and is being addressed by Google.
Initially the issue was only reported for the Nexus Player, but a Google engineer has also reported that owners of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are also experiencing the washed out colours. The Nexus Player issue is slightly different to the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P issue which the same Google engineer has advised will be fixed in an upcoming Maintenance Release (MR).
The full statement:
Hey everyone, We understand the severity of this issue. It’s a widespread problem impacting all Nexus Players on 6.0. We’re working as fast as possible to resolve it.
We also noticed similar problems on Nexus 6P and 5X, as reported in #14; however, those had a different root-cause. Those have been fixed internally, and will be included in a future MR.
There’s no workarounds for the issue at this stage, but with Google due to release an update for Nexus devices next week, we could see a resolution although it’s possible that the fix may not have made it into this release. If you’re experiencing issues with your Nexus Player, Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P stay tuned.
I’ve got a 5X and I never even knew I had this severe problem.
I’m not getting this problem either, thankfully
I’m not getting that. Odd. Must be a video playback issue. Hope they get the fix out soon.
Yet another reason why I went the Galaxy S6 instead of waiting for any of these. What is it with Necus phones and washes out screens? I remember looking at the LG optimus GG in a store and thinking it had one of the best screens I’d ever seen. The nexus 4 – yuk. And don’t get me started on rooting my nexus 5 just to try and boost the colours.
