Google made a big announcement of a new Vizio branded SmartTV running AndrdoidTV, and while we won’t be seeing Vizio TV’s here in Australia, buried in the post was an announcement that the Chromecast app we know and love will be getting an update.
It appears that Google has decided to streamline the naming of their Chromecast/Google Cast products, making more of a distinction between Google Cast the product versus Chromecast the dongle. The new app will be coming this week on both Android and iOS says Google so, watch out for that.
We’re also changing the name of the Chromecast app to Google Cast app, to better reflect that Google Cast technology is now supported across a wide range of devices such as Chromecast, TVs, displays and speakers. The Google Cast app makes it easy for you to discover great stuff to watch, find more apps, customize backdrop, and more.
As part of the rebrand Google has also updated the Chromecast website, which is now known as the Google Cast site. You can find out a lot of information at the Google Cast site, with information on what Google Cast is and links to help resources including forums for users, and links for developers. You can also still see a great list of apps.
The distinction of Google Cast versus Chromecast has been needed since the broader launch of Google Cast products, so head over to the new site and check it out
