With Google making their moves towards an all-in-one travel app solution, Tripit from Concur has announced a new update to their popular Android app, adding Android Wear support as well as some new usage and design improvements.
Tripit is a great solution for travellers, bundling your itineraries and reservations together into trips. Tripit differs from the Google solution which parses your inbox for reservations and confirmations in that it requires you to email your plans to [email protected] and TripIt then outputs a detailed daily itinerary for every trip. This more controlled approach allows you to bundle in details from multiple sources.
Android Wear
The update to Tripit, which goes live today, adds a headline feature that many travellers have been looking for – Android Wear support. The update brings information you require while travelling, such as flight, hotel or lodgings and rental car information to your wrist. It’s been designed from the ground up specifically for Android Wear.
Tripit for Android also gets a funky countdown timer showing the time to your flight departure, counting down from 90 minutes before take off. Once you’re on board, that countdown timer switches over and shows how long you have until the flight lands.
There’s bonuses for Tripit Pro users as well, which gives users real-time flight alert like; connecting flight information, gate changes, flight delays and more.
Design
Tripit has also added in a few design changes to the app including the addition of a new Floating Action Button for creating a trip quickly – that’s right, there’s Material design enhancements. The new functions extend to the ability to merge trips together or move plans from one trip to another directly from within the app.
Tripit has also redesigned how they display upcoming trips, with Travellers sent straight to their next trip when they open the app. A new way to look at upcoming trips will show a split view of trips seperated by whether they’re travelling or not.
Once you’re actually on your trip, there’s new icons to show the segments on your trips, as well as highlighting key information you’ll need on your trip like flights (Terminal, Gate etc.), hotel and rental information.
Finally, there’s been improvements to the maps and directions features, making finding your hotel, meeting or other activity easier to find. The app has improvements to more quickly access maps and directions to points on your itinerary, as well as direct access to Google Maps. You can even long press on a location to copy the address.
The update is heading out to users from today from Google Play. If you’re a Tripit user, check your notifications to see if you have the prompt to update the app.
