Speedtest apps are a dime a dozen so to speak, but network metrics company OpenSignal has today announced a new app called Meteor that’s a speedtest app for the average person.
The aim of the app is to give a real world idea of your network speeds, not just focus on the peaks and lulls of your network connection. The app gives you an idea of the experience you’ll get on your connection using 16 apps to tell you what you can expect, for example: on a slow connection then don’t expect to have lag free video chat on Skype.
Apps that Meteor uses to show your connection include: Chrome, Dropbox, Amazon, Facebook, Flipboard, Gmail, Google Maps, Instagram, Skype, Spotify Music, Street View, Twitter, Uber, Waze, WhatsApp and YouTube.
Here’s a bit of a video to explain more:
The app is currently in Beta, but you can download it from Google Play now to see what you think.
