Waze has begun the release of one of its biggest updates to its eponymous Android and iOS app, including support for routes for motorbikes, and a new voice interaction model.
The new motorbike option will make Waze more useful and enjoyable for those who enjoy riding on two wheels, and the Talk to Waze feature allows complete handsfree interaction with a new hotword “Ok Waze”.
Here’sthe details:
The major change is the introduction of a new Motorcycle vehicle type option and two new motorcycle helmet-rocking Waze moods. Open to Waze users worldwide who prefer to ride on two (or three) wheels, this is the third unique vehicle type supported by Waze, and it comes complete with specialized routing to help make finding freedom on the open road simpler and faster.
In addition to the real-time road updates and alerts, Wazers riding in motorcycle mode will be directed on routes optimized for motorcyclists based on where fellow Wazers-on-wheels are riding and the more you ride in the motorcycle setting, the smarter the routing will become. To sweeten the deal, better routing also means you’ll see a more accurate projected arrival time at your destination.
To Waze on a motorbike go to Settings > Vehicle Type > Motorcycles in your app.
Next up is the new Talk to Waze feature, which gives users the power to command the Waze app with only the sound of your voice and two magic words: “OK Waze.” An evolution of the existing Waze Voice Commands, you can now initiate your drive, get a preview of the route ahead, send reports, and add a pit stop—all without lifting a finger from the wheel. Not only is it convenient, it’s safer, allowing you to stay focused on the road ahead. Talk to Waze is currently available for English-speaking Wazers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, and New Zealand, and will continually roll out in more languages soon.
To start chatting with Waze today, head to Settings > Sound & voice > Talk to Waze > Toggle Listen for “OK Waze” on.
