Huawei’s newly launched flagship, the Mate 20 Pro has set tongues wagging with its innovative features and exceptional camera, now it’s time to see the phone torn down to its bare essentials and check out what makes it tick.
The iFixit teardown has given the phone a repairability score of 4 out of 10, on par with the Galaxy S9+, Pixel 3 XL and of course the Huawei P20 Pro.
iFixit issued the scrore based on a number of factors such as the screen which with the all glass construction makes it a little hard to repair, especially with the inbuilt fingerprint scanner. The glue holding the front and back glass on is also an issue making for possible breakage.
There are positives, including the modular design of components including the battery which can be replaced easily, and the use of standard philipps head screws.
The Mate 20 Pro includes a lot of neat hardware, including what they describe as almost identical 3D face-sensing hardware as used in last years iPhone X. It also has a massive battery which they say is ‘the biggest battery on the block’ at an unprecedented 16.04 Wh.
The Mate 20 Pro is now on-sale in Australia and if you’re still on the fence, then Chris’ review of the phone should tip you in its favour – unless of course you really don’t like EMUI and want those Android updates super fast.

To start with, we definitely are never paid by Huawei for content – all advertorial is clearly marked as such as per our disclosure statement. I think you probably need to talk to more people. There are a number of people i’ve seen in the wild are using Huawei phones, and quite a few have updated from older flagships to the current gen. Fantastic review Daniel. So far I’m loving my mate 20 pro. However struggling to get my google feed going, rather I only have the option of using hiboard. Do you know a way around this?
