Earlier today we reported on Samsung officially announcing their first Infinity-O display phone- the A8s. Just hours before in Hong Kong Huawei’s sub-company Honor unofficially announcing a phone with a similar display, making it the “world’s first in-screen camera smartphone”.
In what is, for us here in Australia, a teaser for the upcoming Nova 4 Huawei’s company, Honor, have announced the new View 20, doing away with any bezels of any significance as well as the dreaded notch. In a prior teaser video Honor had shown they were losing the top bezel and replacing it with a hole in the display for the selfie camera.
This has also been confirmed with a Nova 4 teaser video being published overnight by Huawei:
The Samsung Galaxy A8s showed a punched out hole that is 6mm in diameter — Huawei, in a game of one-upmanship have made their hole just 4.5mm. The full specs of the phone have not been entirely confirmed just yet but the rear camera is said to have a 48MP shooter! Along with that it is expected to run Huawei’s Kirin 980.
The official announcement of the View 20 will occur in Beijing on December 26 and the Nova 4 on December 17. There is little doubt that today’s mini-event was just do that Huawei could say that they were first. Huawei have had a great year with their phone sales and have now cemented their spot at number two on the top smartphone sales ladder.
It seems that Huawei are setting the scene for the P30 Pro to be a spectacular phone showing off some impressive technology in their mid-range phones.
