A couple of years ago now, Huawei released the Freebuds Pro. At the time, they were the best wireless earbuds with noise cancelling I had tried. This week the Freebuds Pro 2 have launched with improved specs and a partnership with Devialet promising better audio too.
As a starting point, this time around, the Freebuds 2 Pro present a smaller package. Everything, from the earbud dimensions to the carry case — which now fits in a coin pocket — is smaller. All of this is achieved without sacrificing audio quality or capabilities. You can also make the choice between Silver Blue, Silver Frost, or Ceramic White colours.
The fit has been enhanced with a physically smaller, but better-balanced earbud and three different ear tip options included in the box. When you add in the ultra-high frequency micro planar diaphragm and an 11mm dynamic driver, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 produce crisp, clean audio across their 14Hz to 48kHz range.
Perhaps one of the most important specs for wireless earbuds is the battery life. The earbuds can last through up to four hours — volume dependent — of playback with ANC on, up to 18 hours including the charging case, the total increases significantly to 30 hours without noise cancelling.
The noise cancelling has multiple modes and intensities available with, in theory, a flight mode that will perform as expected. Combined with multi-device connection capabilities, a plethora of software wizardry to customise your listening experience and easily change between connected devices.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 will set you back $349.00 and is available now through Huawei stores and Amazon. If you’re quick, you can take advantage of the launch offer of a HUAWEI Sound Joy as a gift with the purchase of HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2, valued at $229.00
There’s a lot more to explore with these which we’re planning to do when our review unit lands next week.
