LG has just informed us that their upcoming low-end smartphone, the Optimus Me, will be launching at the front end of April for $229 unlocked and all. In their press release they state that it will be available from mass retailers and select mobile phone resellers, which lines up perfectly with the Optimus Me poking its face out in the March Allphones catalogue. The announcement of this device also reaffirms the correctness of our leaked Android roadmap, which had this device listed at $249 and a release date of April. Perfect.
The device itself, here are some of its key features:
- 2.8-inch TFT capacitive touch screen (QVGA)
- 2GB user memory (Inbox) and support for up to 32GB external memory
- 600MHz CPU
- 3-megapixel camera
- 1,280 mAh battery
- Launch colour : Black
- Video Play Back: 30fps@VGA(MPEG-4/H.263/H.264/DivX)
- Video Recording: 30fps@VGA(MPEG-4/H.243)
- Android 2.2 Froyo
- Stereo FM radio
It seems out low-end devices are starting to not suck. We welcome this with open arms.
Yep, gotta say, LG is playing catchup with the Huawei Ideos. Similar specs to the Ideos but twice the price. I’d pay a bit more for an LG branded phone vs. lesser known Huawei, but not double!
Mitch
you could get 2 ideos for that!
Hopefully this means the rest of the roadmap is correct (Looking for a $599 Optimus 2x)!
Specs don’t seem any different from the Huawei Ideos, which is now down to $99 (omg!) at Crazy Johns.
I’d choose and recommend the Optimus One over the Optimus Me due to the O1 having the better screenestate.
The LG Optimus One (P500) is another low-end Android phone available now, I’ve recommended this to family and friends and it has turned out to be a great value device. Good to see LG taking care of that end of the market with solid devices
