Not content with just two phones in the current Galaxy S6 lineup, it seems Samsung is on the move, registering a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, depicted also as S6 Edge+.
It seems there have been some rumours about the existence of such a phone, but we really haven’t paid too much attention to them — not yet, anyway. With a trademark filing, though, there’s significantly more weight to such a phone being real, or soon to be.
This isn’t Samsung’s only filing in recent times; the Galaxy S6 Note name has also been trademarked recently, though it could be some time away from becoming an actual phone, with the arrival of the Galaxy Note 5 rumoured to be a month or two away.
There was news a day or two ago of Samsung’s Project Zero 2 – a rather uninspiring codename – but accompanying this news was some actual meat: the phone would sport a larger display than the S6 Edge, and a different processor. The specs rumoured for this device aren’t too fixed; display could be 5.4″ to 5.7″ Super AMOLED, with a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 behind the scenes. The rest — 16MP camera with OIS, 5MP front camera, 32GB on board and 3GB RAM, 4G LTE etc — are basically the same as the S6 Edge, so there’s not too much remarkable in that.
We know that Samsung traditionally has a fairly strong showing in the second half of the year, with a new tablet release bound to be just weeks away, and of course the speculation of more devices (ala the Note 5, and perhaps more) coming up and out of IFA Berlin in early September.
