Where do we find out who won?

So… Who own???

Chris

To be announced today.

Just realised this post is pinned to the top of Ausdroid’s mobile page. Missed a few news stories since as there’s no indication that this article has been pinned or is not the newest story on your site. It’s no biggie but I’d really appreciate it if you found a way to make this obvious to your readers.

Chris Rowland

Sticky posts are now marked as such on the front page with a red pin and the word sticky. Please let me know if this makes things clearer Joshua.

Joshua Hill

Thanks 🙂
Much clearer now

Adam

I really appreciate this too ^_^ was a personal bugbear for a while with some of the deal posts lol

Marcus

Unfortunately I failed to read the comments before submitting my name, email address and DOB then discovering that I actually was required to use a social media account to enter the competition. It amazes me that the majority of people don’t place any value on their privacy. You don’t know what you’ve lost until it’s long gone! The popularised highway to hell and staircase to heaven says a lot about the numbers anticipated at each destination.

Chris Rowland

Not quite sure what you’re on about Marcus but if you’d like I’ll go through, find your personal information in the entries and delete it so there’s no possibility of your information being misused.

Adam

Tin foil hat brigade out today it seems; Gleam is a common, well-regarded system for competitions that also helps raise the profile of the sites that use it. If you don’t want to use your social media profiles, or refuse to use social media, don’t enter. There’s plenty others that will.

Chris Rowland

Thank you Adam, well said. We’ve used Gleam because (a) it’s Australian and (b) it’s well regarded and (c) used by many other high-profile sites. We don’t use fly-by-night crapware on Ausdroid.

Rowan

Absolutely agree with Chris… No way am I authorising ausdroid access to change my profile, tweet on my behalf, and essentially have near-full access to my Twitter history. Subversively tricking people into giving personal details. You should be ashamed

Chris

I don’t doubt that the ausdroid guys have no bad intentions. I don’t like Twitter or Instagram and when I click on Facebook what it is requesting is too much. My name and email address fine but sorry they need nothing else so Gleam is using that info to sell for marketing. The required info could be captured using a simple name and email address. I enter the android authority one often and they don’t ask for as much. It is enough to like their page not get full access etc. So no this isn’t ausdroid doing dodgy things this… Read more »

1) We’re not getting full access to change any profile. 2) We don’t tweet on your behalf EXCEPT for the explicitly chosen “Send a tweet about this competition” entry mechanic, and it’s clearly indicated what will happen. 3) We don’t have full access to any Twitter account or history, any more than any other Twitter user would have from simply opening your profile. We’re not tricking people into doing anything. It’s clearly indicated at every step of the process what we’re asking users to do, and you’re not obliged to enter the competition. There’s no trickery. Enter or don’t. It’s… Read more »

Chris

Well you are not getting my personal details and tracking details from stalkbook, I don’t use Twitter so I guess I can’t enter your competition. Good luck for those that did.

Chris Rowland

We’ve added a single entry option for people who don’t want to / don’t use social media. These giveaways are as much about giving away some cool stuff as helping Ausdroid grow its reach so that (ultimately) we can get more stuff to give away in future. I appreciate some people don’t want to participate in the social media side, but I assure you, Ausdroid gets no access to anyone’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. It just logs you in via Gleam so we can confirm you’ve done it, and then you get an entry. The only thing that posts to… Read more »
