With the release of Android One handsets, comes the release of kernel source for the handsets as required by the GPL. Googler Bill Yi, has announced the release over on the Android Building Google Group :
hi All,
Today we pushed the kernel source for the Android One device family. The kernel source can be found on the android-msm-sprout-3.4-kitkat-mr2 branch in the kernel/msm project. It’s also tagged with ‘android-4.4.4_r3’.

The source can be found over on the Android Google Source site, under the code-name Sprout. If you’re an Android Developer and you’re interested in developing for the Android One, then get on it.

this is a reasonable milestone isn’t it, as these devices are running Media-Tek chips… does this mean they have released their code inline with the handset alliance?
