The Android 5.1 update for both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge is available now according to reports rolling in from users all over Australia.
Multiple reports overnight from users on Optus, Telstra and Vodafone are reporting that they are receiving a prompt to update their devices this morning from Android 5.0 to Android 5.1.1:
The update from Telstra notably includes the Stagefright vulnerability fix, while Optus notes in their release notes that their update to Android 5.1.1 does not. Vodafone has simply stated the update is now available to download, though a follow up comment on their site from Ausdroid reader Carsten says the vulnerability remains unpatched after the update.
The update also includes all the usual Android 5.0 to Android 5.1 update goodies, alphabetical search in the app drawer (as well as the ability to remove S Finder and Quick Connect) and a few other bits and pieces.
To check and see if you Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge has an update waiting go to Settings > About device > Software updates menu to check, then let us know in the comments what you think of the update.
On Telstra – with S6 Edge still got nothing. Anyone still waiting??
My first day on 5.1.1 hasn’t been good to my battery. I hope that doesn’t continue!
Received the VF update about a week ago. I don’t know what changed. Could we always change the brightness of the image while taking a photo?
Got the Telstra update overnight. No issues so far. First thing I did was remove S Finder and Quick Connect. I guess I can re-enable SMS auto downloads now in Hangouts.
What? I’m on Telstra and there’s no updates available. Also according to Telstra, their update is due on 31 August or something.
If it’s any consolation, I’ve noticed no differences other than the few mentioned above.
Speed will hopefully be the biggest difference with the update.
My S6 Edge has been horrendously laggy when compared to my Xperia Z3 and Nexus 5 before it.
I’m not sure to be honest. Mine wasn’t horrendously laggy before the update. Delays have been rare for me. Perhaps I don’t push mine as hard as you.
Still nothing for me on Telstra either.
