Yesterday we reported on some leaked images claiming to be the Moto X 2016. Overnight it seems that not only are these images real, or close renders, but that they are actually depicting two variants of the Moto X 2016 codenamed Vector Thin and Vertex.
No rumour is complete without some specifications to go along with it, and according to Evan Blass, of @evleaks fame now at Venture Beat, sources they include:

These are obviously early specs, and even with @Evleaks track record, they should still be viewed as somewhat flexible. If these are correct all I can say is that Motorola better has some magic up their sleeve with the Vector Thin’s battery performance, for a 5.5″ QHD device powered by a Snapdragon 820 to only have a 2600mAh battery I just don’t see them achieving anything approaching all day battery life, even with an AMOLED screen sipping power.
Creating a crazy-thin 5.2mm phone that then NEEDS a battery pack to actually be usable is not consumer focused. I am happy to be proven wrong, but if these specs are correct then physics, and the history of smartphones are on my side.
Today’s speculation also expand on the ‘pogo’ pins we discussed yesterday. These are apparently for modular accessories, yes just like the LG G5, that are rumoured to include:
- Swappable backplates
- Additional battery pack
- Camera grip with flash and optical zoom
- Stereo speakers
- Pico Projector
- Ruggedised cover with wide angle lens
The “modules” will magnetically attach to the rear and will apparently “cover” the sizable camera bump, making these less optional if you want a flat finish. The modules will be opened up to 3rd party suppliers to create and innovate for the product line so it will be interesting to see what features could be added, I’m still hoping for a VR headset!
Before people start claiming the Lenovo copied LG, early images of the now suspected Moto X 2016 with the pogo pins in tow were floating around as early as December last year, see below.
It appears that these devices may launch at Lenovo’s Tech World event to be held June 9th in San Francisco, this event has previously been teased as the event where Lenovo will show off their Project Tango smartphone, apparently the Moto X lineup, amongst other devices will also make their debut here as well.

I could not agree with you more. This race to produce the thinnest phones on the market has, typically, come at the expense of a phone that can be used all day. It’s just stupid.
