Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 is being announced on August 2nd in New York. Samsung generally packs in a bunch of features in their new phones, but the new iris scanner is one of the most interesting. Now you can get a look at the iris scanner before it even launches.

The iris scanner is mounted on the front of the phone – it’s not really much use on the rear – and to use it you simply hold the phone about 25-35cm away from your face. The position is based on getting both your eyes into two on-screen circles that appear on the screen.

Iris scanning is apparently more secure than fingerprint scanning, with around 266 traits checked on an iris compared to just 40 on a fingerprint.

We’ll be finding out more about the Iris scanner and the Note 7 when it’s unveiled on August 2nd at 11am EDT in New York (1am on the 3rd of August AEST for those here at home).
