Customers looking for a new phone at Aldi next weekend will have a higher end than usual choice for phones with Aldi offering the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. There’s also a couple of other neat gadgets set to go on-sale the same day with a smartwatch and NFC enabled Bluetooth headphones.

While not on the Aldi Special Buys section of their website as yet, the devices are being advertised in the latest edition of the Aldi catalogue.

Announced back in 2014, the Galaxy S5 Mini isn’t the highest end of smartphones, but at $249 it’s not bad. There’s not much chance of software updates on the handset given its age, but Samsung did issue a Lollipop update for the device over the last couple of years, so there’s that.

Hardware wise, the phone includes:

  • 4.5″ Super AMOLED display (1280px x 720)
  • 1.4 GHz Quad-core processor
  • 1.5GB RAM
  • 16GB internal memory, expandable to 64GB via microSD
  • 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front facing
  • 2,100 mAh Lithium Ion Battery

Other offerings include a Smartwatch and Bluetooth headphones with NFC on board to tap and pair to a device. There’s not a huge amount of information available on either device, the Smartwatch is available in Black and Silver for $99.99 and will connect to an iPhone or Android device so we’re thinking there’s an App available – but without a brand it’s hard to track that down. The smartwatch will monitor sleep, track your steps and of course deliver notifications like text messages.

The headphones are Bauhn branded, though don’t appear on the Bauhn website (at this stage). They offer Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity with a battery capable of giving up to 15 hours of use per charge. They have NFC built-in to ease pairing of the device and a ‘Premium Audio’ experience.

All three devices will be available from Aldi stores on the 27th of August. You can head to your local store to get them then.
