HTC Nexus

As we quickly approach the inevitable launch and then release of the 2016 Nexus (we’re just rolling with Nexus until we find out what they’re named) phones, the leaks and rumours keep rolling out. Today’s leak shows the smaller 5″ Nexus Sailfish in a set of ‘press renders’. Now all rumours require a liberal application of salt, however, this one will need a double dose. It’s time to keester those salt packets, folks!

The ultimate source of the images is the Chinese answer to Twitter, Weibo. We must bear in mind that the images haven’t come from some of the more reliable, and often correct, phone tipsters on the net. However, a good Nexus leak is still exciting, even if it’s a little on the shaky side.

Overall the renders line up with the previous rumours, and this far into the leak-season that isn’t surprising. The renders clearly show off the large glass panel on the rear of the device where the radios, NFC, and perhaps (but unfortunately unlikely) even Qi charging Coils are expected to be, the fingerprint sensor, USB-C connector and makes the device look less angular than some previous leaks.

With a little under a month until the ‘expected’ launch event (based on previous events) we won’t have long until the device is official.

How is the design of the new Nexus devices looking to you? Let us know below.

This is my next.

Isn’t this an iPhone?

John Bousattout

Yes… but with a better operating system.

John Bousattout

Granted these are from china. But why have an individual fingerprint sensor AND a power/standby button.

But i do like the button positioning of the volume and stand by buttons.
Looking at my S6 and those renders. The phones look very similar with the bezel widths, corner radii and ear speakers.

Definitely looking forward to the release.

Anthonaut

Your phone may be flat on a table so the power/standby allows you to unlock it without picking it up.

John Bousattout

That’s true. But isn’t that what Double tap to wake is for?

Charles Macaraeg

Sensor is always on, bad for battery.

TheDeviant

It works well with the Sony and LG phones.

How do you turn a phone on that has run out of juice, without a physical power button? A fingerprint sensor won’t do it…

John Bousattout

I was implying that they should have combined them. No need for two separate things.

craigo

How would you turn off the screen without a power/standby button. My battery saving OCD would go into overdrive without it.

John Bousattout

I was implying that they should have combined them. No need for two separate things.

David Anderton

Works great on my lg g5

John Bousattout

How are you finding the G5? I had the G4 before it bootlooped. I’m using an S6 currently until later on in the year.

But if you just want to flick on the screen to see if there are any notifications, and then turn it straight back off again. Can you do that with a combined button?

John Bousattout

The combined button serves the purpose of ON/OFF/Standby/Finger Sensor. The amount of innovation that goes into phones these days is amazing. It’s not hard to double tap to wake and double tap to sleep. LG (and Sony) specifically had this, furthermore, even after changing the launcher on the LG it still retained the double tap the notification panel to sleep. The .gif, if it shows up (First time posting an imagine) shows a purported image of quick notifications on android 7.0… The image is reported to be from a decent source. And i just noticed that the button layout matched… Read more »

Ah, double tap for quick notification, then the phone quickly turns back off. I like it!

Double tap to turn off would annoy me, as you double tap a notification to open it, so I would have to make sure I didn’t double tap the notification, when wanting to turn the screen off.
