There’s been a flurry of activity just now, with Google releasing a teaser for their October 4th event, where we will apparently be seeing their new Pixel phones – as well as whatever other goodies they have to announce. The good news is it seems you will be able to watch the event online.

In their teasers, Google has been pointing people to their google.com/tenfour website which allows you to add your email address to be notified as soon as there is information. If you do decide to add your email address, a calendar invite is sent to that address, which gives you the date/time for the event – October 4th at 9am in the US, which translates to October 5th at 3am AEDT here in Australia – and in the description says ‘Join us for the Google announcement and be the first to hear the news. youtube.com/google’.

The URL being pointed to – madeby.google.com indicates a big announcement of hardware which is ‘made by Google’. The shift to a hardware company was indicated earlier this year when former Motorola CEO Rick Osterloh was brought on board to manage the companies hardware efforts.

In line with their hardware focus, the event is promising to be one of Google’s largest. At the event, we expect to see two Pixel phones – the Pixel and Pixel XL – as well as other hardware which Google teased would be announced ‘this fall’ at Google I/O earlier this year. Other devices include their new Daydream VR headset/controller combo, as well as Google Home. Some rumoured Android Wear watches may also make an appearance, as may ‘Google’s Huawei-built 7-inch tablet, with 4GB RAM’, and maybe even a 4K capable Chromecast.

It appears that Google is starting to invite press to the event, and it would be nice to attend to check any new hardware out in person when they do. We’ll be watching along here to bring you the announcements as they happen and as much information on local launches as we can get.
