What better time to announce some bad news but the day of one of the biggest Google launches since the launch of Android itself. Lenovo has taken the opportunity to announce which of their phones will be updated to Nougat, and for some users the news isn’t great.

The Moto phones in line to receive the update includes a few notable exceptions including any Moto E phones, as well as last years Moto G 2015 (Gen 3) and older Moto X devices. Last year Moto received significant feedback from users for omitting phones such as the Moto E which had only been on the market for a short period of time, Moto eventually responded by updating the phone so there could be more movement on the devices, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The rest of the phones included in the list are an assortment of relatively recent phone releases, as well as the recently launched in Australia, Moto X Force. The ‘gimme’ of the lot has got to be the Motorola built, but Google controlled Nexus 6.

The full list of Moto phones getting the Nougat update includes:

  • Moto G (4th Gen)
  • Moto G Plus (4th Gen)
  • Moto G Play (4th Gen)
  • Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen)
  • Moto X Style
  • Moto X Play
  • Moto X Force
  • Droid Turbo 2
  • Droid Maxx 2
  • Moto Z
  • Moto Z Droid
  • Moto Z Force Droid
  • Moto Z Play
  • Moto Z Play Droid
  • Nexus 6

The update to Nougat will begin in the 4th Quarter this year with the Moto Z and Moto G (4th Gen) first in line to receive the update.

    1. The Pixel line is announced with absurdly high pricing
    2. The Nexus line is confirmed dead
    3. I find out that my Moto G3 won’t be getting Nougat

Wake me up when the 5th October ends…

It’s Oct 6th now, but Android Land hasn’t gotten much better with a report of a replaced Note 7 catching fire on a USA flight. And it seems legit, which makes it even worse 🙁

This sentence is a trainwreck: “The Moto phones in line to receive the update includes a few notable exceptions including any Moto E phones, as well as last years Moto G 2015 (Gen 3) and older Moto X devices.” Exceptions means not included!

Grammatically it may be incorrect. But managed to work out what the author was saying. For someone who likes correcting grammar, I am surprised that you didn’t understand. In any case, I am sure the team at Ausdroid would be more than willing to see your articles, if you can work full time, spend time with the family and then write an article. Go on .. show us. Really tired of people picking on grammar/spelling on articles written by people who provide us with Android news as a hobby.

Is the Moto G4 Plus also included in the line of the first few to receive updates?

I see that it is still possible to buy a Nexus 6, although I’m not sure why anyone would bother given the price drop on the 6P.

Daniel, any idea if the Moto Z’s will make it down under at all?

    Lee Hall

I got one through Clove if your happy go to down that path

Better fix your grammar before danmeek corrects you.

    OzPup

Prefer to go local, but if they don’t release it soon or slap a massive Australia tax on it, then Clove it will be!

    Dimi Hava

Moto AU has teased them on their FB page this morning, so I’d say yes 🙂
