Sony’s latest high-end smartphone the Xperia XZ, recently announced at Mobile World Congress will apparently making its way to market in June according to a listing on Amazon UK.
The initial Amazon listing has been updated to remove the release date and price, but for a time was showing a £649 ($1,047AUD) price tag with a June 1st release date. The June release date makes a lot of sense given that the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship System on Chip, the Snapdragon 835. Famously Samsung claimed the entire first run of the Snapdragon 835 processor, forcing other OEMs like LG to use the Snapdragon 821 in the G6. June would fit for when Qualcomm can produce more volume of the SoC allowing more devices from other OEMs to enter the market.
The Xperia XZ also contains a host of high end features including slow motion video capture of up to 960fps, and a 4K display when playing 4K resolution content (it displays in 1080P at other times), so the £649 ($1,047AUD) is pretty decent, though the Australian pricing for the handset may be a little more once the ‘Australia Tax’ is added.
Sony hasn’t officially announced pricing or availability for the Xperia XZ Premium as yet, but we’re hoping to see the phone sometime soon.
I`m interested to have a look at the sony premium , but even if it turns out to be a very good device , i would have liked a bigger battery , and that sony slab shape just does nothing for me , the squared off corners , i just dont like them , and it seems like the same old same old that sony has been pushing out forever even with the wizz bang soc .
it would have to be so good it would grow on me ……Galaxy S8 or Sony xz premium ….who will win 🙂 .
yeah i agree, although i do like the slab shape – it’s super nice when using it – the top and bottom bezels are crazy. if they halved the top and bottom bezel, it would be a serious contender for device of 2017.
Yeah , I’m sure Sony could modernize it a bit to bring it into the 21st century .
