Meet Nokia’s new budget line up – the Nokia 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1

HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, has continued to rapidly renew its portfolio of Nokia branded Android smartphones, announcing the latest range of budget smartphones overnight at an event in Russia, launching the Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1.

The latest devices have been designed to satisfy essential consumer needs and the latest Google services, powered by either Android One or Android Go (Oreo Edition) 8.0, combined with the premium craftsmanship and design expected from a Nokia smartphone along with the performance to match.

Nokia 5.1

The Nokia 5.1 has been designed to perform better than the previous generation, the Nokia 5, which was ok but did lack some power and felt stale and old. The new Nokia 5.1 is the only devices in the line up that includes a fingerprint sensor which is located at the centre back of the device.

The phone will come in two versions of storage – a 2GB RAM version with 16GB storage onboard or 3GB RAM version with 32GB storage onboard (both have a microSD slot). Of course the end users storage will differ from this.

The Nokia 5.1 is expected to be on sale from approximately July this year and retail from approximately around €189 Euro’s (approx AUD$292) to €219 Euro’s (approx AUD$337) depending on spec brought to each market.

Nokia 3.1

According to HMD Global, the original Nokia 3, released last year, has been one of their most successful devices and biggest franchise to date in the market, according to the company. From this, the company has built the Nokia 3.1 with precision craftsmanship. The Nokia 3.1 ditches the all plastic body to now have a curved screen built into a slim CNC’d aluminium sides with a dual diamond cut to deliver a perfect harmony between design materials and performance.

The phone will come in two versions of storage – a 2GB RAM version with 16GB storage onboard or 3GB RAM version with 32GB storage onboard (both have a microSD slot). Of course the end users storage will differ from this.

The Nokia 3.1 is expected to be available globally from approximately July this year and retail from approximately around €139 Euro’s (approx AUD$202) to €289 Euro’s (approx AUD$446) depending on which version.

Nokia 2.1

The Nokia 2.1 has been built to last battery wise for up to 2 days thanks in part to the 4,000mAh which the company states now charges even faster so you can get back up and running even more quickly than before. It also comes with front facing stereo speakers along with an even slightly bigger display and body than the previous Nokia 2 edition from last year.

The Nokia 2.1 runs Android Go (Oreo Edition) 8.1 and will retail for €99 (approx AUD$153) and will be available globally from approximately July this year.

HMD Global have stated that both the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 3.1 will receive three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates, as guaranteed in the Android One programme, whilst it is unsure if the the Nokia 2.1 will receive something similar in regards to monthly security and major OS updates – though I wouldn’t bet on it.

NOkia have become a somewhat new firm favourite within the Ausdroid office and we certainly are happy to see the Nokia name back full time.
