Two years in a row now Nokia has announced something a little quirky alongside its more mainstream phones at Mobile World Congress, and in 2018, that quirky something was a revamped Nokia 8110.

Made famous by (amongst other things) the Matrix series and drug dealers, the Nokia 8110 features an incredibly distinctive sliding cover which makes for one hell of a unique way to hang up on people (or to answer a call).

When we saw this ourselves, we were incredibly impressed, but held low hopes for Nokia bringing the phone to Australia – though, they promise they’ll let us know if this changes.

But let’s say you want a Nokia 8110 4G today. Well good news, you can buy one and have it within a couple of days.

Expansys has the yellow Nokia 8110 4G in stock for just under $150 plus delivery fees. The black variant – which might suit the die-hard Matrix fans a little better – is also available, and about $20 cheaper. According to Expansys, the stock they’ve obtained supports all the main 4G bands in use in Australia, so this phone should work for just about everyone.

Let us know if you’ll be ordering one, for serious use or for nostalgia it doesn’t really matter.

guys – as this is slated as a dual SIM phone and after further research online only sim slot #1 is 3G/4G ready and sim slot #2 is only 2G ready… as all our mobile providers have effectively turned off 2G services, is this truly a dual sim ready and running phone here in Oz?
can anyone that has in fact bought this phone confirm whether or not they have been able to get dual sim functionality in Australia? (if so which carrier SIM cards are you using?) ??
thnx heaps

I have purchase one from Hong Kong but I too have no App Store does any one know if it cause I’m using only Sim slot two or is because they would not have updated the phone in that country?

Thanks for this. I just ordered one for my dad since it’s similar enough to a flip phone.

This phone looks really compelling.

Does Google Assistant work on it? Then you have voice control to activate all the ‘smart’ functionality, without the need for a touchscreen. That allows for incredible battery life!

Just received a software update on the UAE version of the 8110 I purchased.

This is version 12 and it includes the KaiOS store, YouTube and …..Google Assistant!

Very cool and changing my recommendation from “wait” to “Buy!”

James Nelson

Did the update happen Automatically?

gghh

Doesn’t support 4G band 28

Just a heads up for anyone thinking about buying one.

I bought one off eBay which was the UAE model and there’s no KaiOS store available on this model yet.

Apparently Nokia are only releasing a software update when they launch the store in that region.

The Malaysian models have an update available now that the store has been launched there.

Not sure which country variant Expansys are selling.

Without the store it’s a bit of a lame duck

Really

Much appreciated, the article should really be updated to reflect this information.

I’m so torn by the colour options: yellow for the “banana phone” moniker, or black for the Matrix reference. #firstworldproblems
