Telstra has quietly added a new entry to its Telstra branded line of prepaid devices, with the Telstra Superior, a rebadged Alcatel 3V, now available for sale for $199.

Telstra has been selling their own branded devices, previously manufactured by ZTE, for a while now but with recent developments with ZTE’s mobile business forced the Telco to drop all ZTE manufactured devices Telstra has since moved on, scrambling to find a new partner to deliver whitelabel prepaid devices. Alcatel has seemingly filled the void with the new Telstra Superior.

The Alcatel 3V, part of the 3 series of devices the company announced earlier this year during MWC 2018, was to be based under the sub $200 price point but still provide mid range specs for a budget price. Based on the spec sheet, plus Dan’s first look at the device, you could do certainly do a lot worse for a device with the same price tag. So what do you get for $199?

  • 6” (1080 x 2160) 18:9 FHD+ 2K Colour screen
  • MediatekQuad Core 1.45Ghz
  • Mali 720 600MHZ
  • 16GB onboard storage, expandable to 128GB via MicroSD
  • 12MP Auto Focus + 2MP Fixed Focus rear dual cameras with Bokeh effect
  • 5MP front facing camera
  • Rear fingerprint scanner
  • Android 8.0 Oreo
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot
  • Bluetooth v4.2
  • Battery: 3000 mAH non removable
  • Networks:
    • 3G: 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz
    • 4G: FDD: 700, 800, 850, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600
    • 4G: TDD: 2300, 2600 MHz

The Alcatel 3V is part of a move to begin using the display technology manufactured by their parent company TCL in their handsets. The new 18:9 aspect ratio displays aren’t often found at this end of the market, offering users a premium looking display at a budget price poing.

You can check out and purchase the Telstra Superior (Alcatel 3V) from either the Telstra website online or via its local Telstra stores for $199. Though just a reminder that the device is locked to the Telstra network and unlocking fees do apply. To find out about unlocking fees on the Telstra network, please visit this link here.

Correct 5099u has no nfc. Very annoyed/angry. 5099y does but not available as a superior.

Where is the torch on Telstra superior

Tango India Mike

This looks to be the 5099U model judging from the supported frequencies which according to GSM Arena doesn’t have NFC.

That’s a shame as it’s pretty solid for $199 but without NFC no Google Pay….can anyone who’s seen one in a Telstra store confirm whether it’s got NFC?

Ben

Yep I have the the Telstra superior and it has no NFC chip inside so I am also annoyed
