Huawei has recently held a Global Analyst Conference attended by 700 analysts from around the world. During the event, Huawei announced its 5G strategy for networks, showing a roadmap with upcoming devices.
The first device to market will be a home-based WiFi modem. Powered by Huawei’s Balong 5000 chipset, we’re expecting to see this in June (if not necessarily in Australia). Following that in July is the big news item.
From what we’ve been told ourselves, and rumours elsewhere, we understand the foldable Huawei Mate X will debut in July 2019. All eyes will be on Huawei, following the well publicised issues with Samsung’s Galaxy Fold.
Later in the year we’re told we can expect a new mobile broadband device based on 5G, as well as the Mate 20 X (5G). There will also be a new handset line announced around October 2019, and with 5G all around us, we’re expecting at least one 5G variant there, too.
Going forward, I’m hopeful that we’ll see 5G devices come to market faster and faster. We have the networks now (albeit, in limited places) and it’s high time we had some variety in hardware to use with them.
