Google’s Playground camera mode (previously AR Stickers) for the Pixel 3a can be great fun, but it was lacking a selfie camera mode until now.
Pixel 3a and 3a XL owners can now use the selfie camera to virtually interact with characters like Detective Pikachu and Childish Gambino.
As on the prior Pixel flagships, the characters can respond to camera activity – Iron Man will give a thumbs up when you do, for example.
Playground was previously available on the selfie camera on the flagship Pixels, so it’s nice to see more features trickling down to the more affordable Pixel 3a series.
Another part of the Playground 2.6 camera update adds a minor change to the stickers button – options are now tabbed into Recent, Featured, Playmoji, and Stickers. Stickers are now shown on a white background to improve visibility. Lastly, the mode was updated to dark mode in the latest update, moving it in line with the system-wide dark mode plans for Android Q.
