OnePlus officially release the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro

We’ve had leaks, we’ve had official details released and now we get our first unfiltered look at the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. As is often the case in the current leaky times, the rumours of the specs on both devices were accurate.

We’ve already had confirmation that both devices will sport the Snapdragon 888 SoC, even their own CEO has been part of the spec teasing.

OnePlus 9 Pro

Comes to you with the best OnePlus can offer, with the specs right at the sharp end. The software in previous years has been an excellent, well optimised Android experience and this year, we’ll see the same again.

The OnePlus 9 Pro has an impressive list of specs:

• Either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM
• 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 Storage
• Dynamic 120Hz refresh on the QHD+ screen with up to 360Hz touch sampling
• 4,500mAh battery
• 50W wireless charging, higher than any other phone currently and can charge your phone in 43 minutes.
• 65W warp charging – can restore from 1% to full charge in 29 minutes
• IP68 rating for water and dust protection

The OnePlus 9 Pro has been engineered to have it well balanced in your hands, so you can use it for longer. If you want to get your hands on one, you’ve got a choice of colours: Morning Mist, Pine Green and Stellar Black.

It seems like the OnePlus 9 Pro may well repeat last years feat, taking the mantle of the best phone you can’t easily buy. As an indicative starting point for those who want to import one, you’ll be looking at US$969.00 for the 8+128GB version or US$1,069.00 for 12+256GB version of the OnePlus 9 Pro.

OnePlus 9

Make no mistake, while this is the more affordable of the phones it still offers buyers a huge amount of functionality and performance because it shares many of the specs from its big brother. Users will get — region dependent — 8GB/12GB memory and 128GB/256GB of storage. The 6.55-inch display will give users an easy on the eyes, 120Hz refresh on FHD+ screen.

The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile processor with 5G connectivity and a 4,500mAh battery which should give you all-day power. Even if you are caught short, the Warp Charge has the capability to fill your battery in under half an hour.

Both the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro have camera features consistent with the massive investment from OnePlus, resulting in partnership with Hasselblad. In the early stages this will be primarily through image processing, but longer-term (OnePlus 10 presumably) we will see new optics and even better cameras.

Accessories

Similar to previous years, there are a few basic accessories that will be available as part of the release. A bumper case and a Karbon case to protect your device.

At the moment there’s no official pathway to get them in Australia, but there are pathways to get your hands on them through online retailers. We’re lucky enough to have a review unit already and our review is underway, we’ll report back soon.
