Optus has quietly added two new Android devices to its prepaid line up which are the X Pro 2 and the X Start 3, with both devices coming from ZTE’s catalogue of devices here in Australia. The devices are aimed at the budget conscious or those who aren’t able to spend hundreds of dollars on a mid range or high end device.
Optus X Pro 2
The Optus X Pro 2 is the more upper end budget device, with the device coming with a 6.52-inch IPS HD+ display (720×1600 @ 269ppi) which is powered by a Octa Core (1.6GHz x 4 + 1.2GHz x 4) Processor though sadly both Optus and ZTE haven’t stated the type of processor exactly used.
It has 3GB RAM alongside 64GB onboard storage (with about 55GB available to the user) that can be expanded to 512GB via MicroSD.
In terms of cameras, the Optus X Pro 2 comes with a triple rear camera set up that is made up of a 13MP main camera, 2MP Macro lens and a 2MP Depth sensor lens. The front facing is a 5MP camera.
The Optus X Pro 2 comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4GHz, Bluetooth version 4.2, NFC capabilities, 3.5mm audio jack, a 5000mAh non-removable battery, and runs Android 11 out of the box, though it is unsure if the device will receive an update to Android 12.
The Optus X Pro 2 is available from your local Optus store or the Optus prepaid website for $179 in grey colour only.
Optus X Start 3
The Optus X Start 3 is the more budget end of the devices, with the X Start 3 coming with a 5-inch FWVGA+ display (480×960 pixels) and is powered by a Quad-Core (1.4GHz x 4) processor, although the type of processor exactly used is not listed by either Optus or ZTE directly.
The Optus X Start 3 comes with 1GB RAM and 32GB of on board storage, with about 24GB available to the user, which can be expanded to 256GB via MicroSD card.
In terms of cameras, the Optus X Start 3 comes with a single 5MP rear facing camera, with the front facing being a 2MP camera which on paper doesn’t sound like the greatest, but if you’re not worried about flawless selfies, this could be good enough for the occasional video chat or selfie.
The Optus X Start 3 comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4GHz, Bluetooth version 4.2, a 2,000mAh removable battery and runs Android 11 Go edition, although it is probably the best and safe bet there might not be an upgrade to Android 12 Go Edition if and when its made available.
The Optus X Start 3 is available from your local Optus store or the Optus Pre-paid website in grey colour only for $79.
