Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) Amaysim, a direct subsidiary of Optus, has today announced that it will very soon launch 5G connectivity and plans for its prepaid customers.
The 5G connectivity will run off directly off the Optus 5G network, which the company is stating is currently Australia’s fastest 5G network for download speeds, as awarded by Opensignal. This theoretically, gives Amaysim customers will give customers access to significantly faster download speeds, lower latency for a better experience of ‘real-time’ applications, and increased capacity to support simultaneous connections in highly populated areas.
Head of Amaysim, Renee Garner said:
“5G is without a doubt the next step in mobile technology. As such, we’re thrilled to be one of the first MVNOs to offer our Amaysim customers an enhanced mobile experience with access to supercharged download speeds and greater reliability.”
Furthermore, Harvey Wright, Optus Head of 5G has stated that:
“Optus continues to offer customers great value 5G on its postpaid and prepaid plans, like the $60 for 60GB prepaid plan, and we are excited to now welcome Amaysim onto the Optus 5G network”.
Amaysim has stated that 5G will be switched on from November for new and existing customers with a compatible 5G enabled device can take advantage of Amaysim’s new 5G mobile plan for only $55, which will include 60GB of data, unlimited standard talk and text within Australia, unlimited standard international calls to 42 destinations, Optus 5G + 4G plus network coverage, unlimited data banking and no lock-in contract.
It is important to note that Amaysim isn’t technically the first MVNO that utilises the Optus 5G network alongside its 4G network, with other providers such as Southern Phone, Aussie Broadband and Spintel also offering 5G through the Optus network currently.
Now all that remains is to see when fellow MVNO sub-brand Gomo will also start offering 5G plans.
Disappointed that 5G won’t be just added to existing services.
very good news
