I have been doing my best to stay fit and healthy and to help with that task I recently purchased a Fitbit Flex.

There are several devices in the Fitbit lineup and all of them perform roughly the same tasks in different form factors which is to count your steps as you go about your daily routine. Most of those devices include a display that can show you your step count at any time during the day except for the Fitbit Flex which just shows a row of five dots that give you an indication of how you are progressing and this is where the Android app comes into play.

The current version of the Android app allows you to sync your data using Bluetooth if you have a compatible Android device, and there is a rather small list of devices which only contains a selection and Samsung devices.

Fitbit have decided it is about time to fix this issue and are trying hard to include the Nexus lineup of devices and are now seeking people that have a Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2013) or a Nexus 5 to help test their app.

The process to become a tester is quite simple:

  • Click on this link
  • Fill in the required details
  • Wait for Fitbit to invite you to be a tester
  • Follow the instructions from there

I have only just installed the beta app today so I can’t say what the long term performance is going to be like, but so far everything has worked exactly as it should. We will keep our fingers crossed that things continue to run smoothly and hopefully Fitbit will be able to include these devices in an update in the near future.

I’d be really chuffed to be able to help get become Fitbit more compatible with Android. My Fitbit Flex is fantastic, but without real time syncing with my phone, it’s functionality is hampered.
