When Facebook announced their latest venture into messaging, called Slingshot, last week, it was unfortunately limited to the US. If you held off from trying the service out till it went live, you can now install it from Google Play in Australia.
Slingshot links you to friends using phone numbers or Facebook connections. Once you have some friends lined up, you can start ‘slinging’ messages to them. When you send a ‘Sling’ (a short video or a picture) whoever sends it back to you will need to send one back in response before they can view your original message. Videos or pictures you send can have text added to them to really emphasise what’s going on. Once your friends see you ‘sling’ they can reply with a reaction, possibly a selfie.
We did supply an APK to side-load when Slingshot first launched, but with this, you can now jump straight over to Google Play and install it directly. Let us know what you think — is it a viable competitor, or is it trying to be/oust SnapChat?
Needs a phone number, for a duel phone wielder that’s a Instant uninstall. Couldn’t use snapshot for same reason
