Major Australian airline Qantas updated their Android app, bringing feature parity with the iOS app, starting to offer a range of new features that will help travelers as they navigate airports to get to their Qantas flight.
The update, which went live last week adds many new functions to let customers view their whole trip within the app. Travelers will be able to get directions to the airport, as well as gaining the ability to check-in and access their boarding pass from within the app. Qantas travelers will also receive updates on essential information such as gate number, boarding time, flight status and baggage.
There’s also fare alerts which allows you to add your favourite travel destinations and be kept abreast of deals. The Qantas app can also provide easier access to car hire, transfers and activities, all of which adds up to making the app the ‘perfect travel companion’.
The Qantas Android app is available for Android devices running Android 4.0 and above, and is available now for free from Google Play.
They removed flight status with the last update. If this is “bringing it into line with the iOS version I would prefer to have kept the previous Android version which was better.
BTW, Daniel: it should be “Qantas updates its Android app” not “Qantas updates their Android app” – companies are a singular entity.
Qantas still has a lot of work to do. Frequent flyer integration is poor. Status credits can not be viewed and most tasks still have to be done on the Web. Booking flights is just a mobile site view in a browser. when you switch into another app and switch back to your boarding pass it force closes.
