VLC Beta For Android
VLC is the go-to application for media playback on most platforms, but it’s been a long road on Android. Late to the party, they’ve become a great way to playback almost all video formats, although they’ve been in Beta since their release back in 2012. Now version 1.0 is rolling out through Google Play and it’s apparently fixing quite a few issues with Android 5.0.

According to the ‘What’s New’ roundup on the Google Play store description, the update includes quite a few fixes :

VLC for Android 1.0.0
This release fixes ARMv8 processors, Android 5.0 crashes and minor improvements.
The 0.9.x series is major release with hardware decoding and a new interface available in dark or white colors. It integrates DVD iso and menu support, an equalizer, playlist management, Widi screens support and updated SD cards detection.
Hardware acceleration is now enabled by default on 4.3+ and has better subtitles support. Software decoding has been accelerated too.

If you’re also looking to see what’s in the future for VLC visually, the team at Videolabs has shown off a set of screenshots of the Material Design rebuild designed for Android 5.0 and Android TV devices.

As for Chromecast support, which VLC announced was coming a few months ago, according to VLC, that too is still in the works, but you won’t find it in here just yet. Still, it’s good to see it’s not been forgotten.

If you want to try out VLC for Android, it’s a free to use application available now in Google Play.
