The announcement yesterday that Google+ Photos would shutter, beginning with Android, on the 1st of August left a small cloud over the service, but the release of an update to the app which brings some new functions, should smooth over things for at least a little while.
The update to Google Photos version 1.2 brings some more customisations for the app, namely the ability to add descriptions to photos and photo albums, as well as the simple ability to add a photo to an album, as well as set an image as the album cover for any of your albums.
The option to add to an Album is now added to the context menu in the top right when you look at the photos. The option to add a photo as an album cover can only be done once you’ve added that pic to an album, but you can do that from the same contextual menu
One of the nice things about the new update is now the ability to add a description to the individual photos, simply by clicking the ‘i’ icon in the bottom right hand corner of the photo. As you can see there’s a bit of information about the device used to take the pic, though the location information was way off.
The update to Photos should be available through Google Play shortly, although you can always grab it early if you want to.
