Apple is finally starting to take Android seriously, with the release of Apple Music at their World Wide Developer conference in June they announced their intention to release their first Android app, and then quietly announced another designed to help move Android users over to iOS. That tool has reached Google Play this morning in the form of the Move to iOS app from Apple inc.

The app itself isn’t a new idea, there’s been guides put out from Google that help iOS to Android so it’s unsurprising to see Apple wanting to help move Android users into their eco-system. The Move to iOS app is aimed at users running Android 4.0 and above and will help move your contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, bookmarks, mail accounts and calendars to iOS securely, with ‘no need to save your stuff elsewhere’.

The app itself will migrate your data to your new iPhone or iPad by creating a private Wi-Fi network. The app will ask you to agree to a fairly lengthy and wordy terms and conditions page before continuing and asking you to enter a security code, but from there it seems it’s all action transferring your data and content to the right places.

Notably the Apple Inc. developer account hasn’t been setup as a ‘developer page’ which Google announced at I/O in May. Perhaps once Apple Music launches and they begin to get a stable of apps they may change that. As you can see from the screen shots, Apple has chosen to use one of the best looking smartphones around – the HTC One M8 – in their screenshots for the app.

The tool is actually fairly useful if you choose to use an iPad as opposed to an Android tablet. If you want to check it out you can download it now for free from Google Play, then let us know what you think.

Seconds after install I looked down and notice I’m wearing converse high tops, no socks, skinny jeans that cut off just above the ankle, knitted jumper, a set of 3d glasses with no lenses and to top it all off? My hair looks like a packet of bachelors super noodles! I also have the strange urge to not conform to wider… Read more »
