Google’s announcement this morning of an update to Google Play Books for Android to make comic reading easier was a welcome one for comic fans, and to help you try out the new update Google has made 40 premium Comics available for free in Google Play.

The list of comics available are from big name comic publishers, Image Comics, IDW Publishing and Zenescope Entertainment, including awesome titles such as The Walking Dead, Saga, The X-Files, Jem and the Holograms. This list of 40 titles is just the start though, with the Google Play team promising weekly deals every Thursday, as well as the comics focused section of Google Play that will aid in discovery of new comics.

The update to Google Play Books should be rolling out soon, so keep an eye out for that update, then make sure you check out the freebies on offer right now.

Appreciate the heads up. I haven’t really paid much attention to comics since I was a kid but, thanks to you, I’ve just added about a dozen to my Play Books library so I can get an idea as to what I’ve been missing out on.
