The US is about to enter their Thanksgiving weekend, and that of course is kicked off by their ‘Black Friday’ sales at retailers, and followed by ‘Cyber Monday’ where discounts can be had all round. While there’s some reticence towards adopting US holidays, I`m all for a good deal, so with Google offering ‘Cyber Monday’ deals across apps, games, TV & Movies, Books and Music in Google Play, I`m on board.
Google Play Apps and Games
This is the bread and butter of the Android MarketGoogle Play, so Google has gone to town. There’s two main deals, one is offering up to 80% off selected apps and the other if offering in-app Deals and 50% off apps.
The offer for up to 80% off selected apps sees titles from developers Square Enix (Final Fantasy), Electronic Arts, Toca Boca AB and more discounted by up to 80% – the deal also apparently applies to in-game content as well. There’s some good titles here, like Grim Fandango, all those Final Fantasy games and Need For Speed is usually great to play. Head over to grab them while the deals last.
If the idea of 50% off in-app content and apps appeals, then head over to the second Cyber Monday App focus and check out what’s on offer. There’s some titles discount like Water Drink Reminder and Dashlane Password Manager, but the other deals seem to mostly through in-app purchase. There’s some good titles there, so check them all out.
Google Play Movies & TV
TV & Movies get a great bunch of sales, with three main focuses: HD Movies on-sale from $6.99ea, Family Movie deals and the option to purchase a TV Series at 30% off.
The HD Movies from $6.99 sale is fairly straight forward, with a bunch of movies for rental for $0.99 or for purchase for $6.99 in HD. There’s limited titles for $6.99, like About Time, Chef, John Wick and Captain Phillips, but there is of course some higher priced options so it’s worth your time to look through.
The Family Movie Deal is not quite as good, but there’s a good selection of movies and you’ll be sure to find something in there like Babe, The Lorax and Box Trolls.
Finally, there’s a one-off offer for 30% off a TV Series. You’ll need to click this link to redeem the offer first – one use per account – and ensure you redeem it by the 1st of December. There’s a focus with a list of titles, but it seems to be available on almost any TV series, so have a look for your favourite.
Google Play Music
If you’re in the mood for some music, and you don’t pay for Google Play Music streaming, then you can access up to 50% off an album from Google Play Music. Just like the Google Play Movies & TV offer for 30% of a TV Series, the offer is only valid for one purchase per account. You will need to click this link before you start perusing, but next time you go to purchase an album before the 1st of December you’ll get 50% off your next album.
Google Play Books
For the bookworms out there, Google Play Books is offering up to 80% off some titles for Cyber Monday. There’s Comic books from DC/Vertigo, as well as Marvel, Image and Dark Horse Comics, and you can find your usual array of Novels from a variety of popular authors like Jodi Piccoult, Dean Koontz and Nora Roberts. There’s no code to grab for this one, so head over and get your books.
Google Play Newsstand
Google Play Newsstand, that oft-forgotten home of news content within Google Play is also doing some decent deals, offering 99c issues of popular magazines….ok, they’re not huge names, but there’s some titles in there like Backyard, Crusty, Dogs Life and Poolside that sound interesting if that’s your thing. You can check out their deals on Google Play.
Well, we don’t do Thanksgiving here in Australia – although I’ve always like Turkey and Pumpkin Pie, so there’s that – but we can certainly enjoy the Google Play Savings here in Australia for Cyber Monday. There is possibly some ‘Black Friday’ deals coming, with the Android and Nexus Twitter accounts having some fun this morning:

We’ll keep you posted on those as they happen. Head over to Google Play and let us know if we missed anything.
It would be nice if there were some apps in the apps and games deals 🙁
