Google has been pushing their stock Android apps to Google Play as standalone entities for some time now, allowing them greater control to update them outside of OS releases. The latest apps to make the plunge are the stock Dialer and Contacts apps, which are now available on Google Play.
The apps are only in limited release, with access seemingly limited to Android One, Nexus and Google Play Edition devices running Marshmallow. The apps appear to be straight from their current iteration, except for the Phone app, which appears to have added one new feature:
Call Blocking – Get the calls you want, and not the ones you don’t. You can now block numbers to prevent unwanted calls.
If your phone or cell connected tablet meets the requirements, you can install the Phone or Contacts apps from Google Play right now.
Update:Looks like they’ve removed both apps from the Play Store now – but as we know they exist as standalone apps, we’ll likely see them again soon.
I managed to get the dialer from the Play Store earlier, had to get contacts elsewhere
wont install on my device (LG G4).
I really want the make-shift nexus look lol
Love to use Dialer App on my wife’s s6 edge. I like the Google caller ID. But again i also like samsung swipe feature on contacts and sensor dialer.
Yeah, that’s the only thing that i like on Samsung’s UI.
