The launch of podcasts in Google Play Music is coming. Google announced the feature last October, and yesterday a fairly well known podcaster tweeted podcasts would be arriving in Google Play Music this month – before deleting the tweet. Today, it looks like some people are seeing podcasts in their Google Play Music apps, firming up the February launch.
The screenshots sent in by a number of people to Android Police, show that podcasts will be their own distinct category in the Google Play Music app, with a podcasts section easily accessible from the slide-out menu, as you can see below.
As one of their tipsters notes however, search is a bit unfinished at this stage, with songs, albums, artists, playlists, and videos showing up before podcasts – surely this should be fixed before launch.
One neat feature which appears to have been implemented is the ability to automatically download the last 5 episodes when you subscribe, as well as being notified when new podcasts are available.
Google has changed up the player interface slightly with podcasts in Google Play Music apparently, with a 30-second skip forward/backwards buttons replacing the thumbs up/thumbs down buttons.
Android Police have a few more shots of the interface, such as podcast lists, as well as of individual podcast episodes. Unfortunately there’s no date for international expansion of podcast availability as yet, but given their wide availability in other podcasting apps such as Pocket Casts, it surely can’t be long before we see it launch here.
Thus this news already release on Google music? Thus anyone of you tired?
This is only for subscribers though, yeah?
In theory it should be available to everyone.
