Social media service Twitter has had a love affair with short message and video sharing, but from today the length of the videos you can share through Twitter is about to get longer – and the change isn’t stopping at Twitter, with the longer videos heading to Vine soon too.
Previously videos you’ve been able to capture and share to Twitter were capped at 30 seconds – a longer option than other social sites, but still short by video standards. From today, Twitter will let you upload up to 140 seconds of video in a tweet. That’s a limit for personal users though with Twitter advising selected publishers will ‘continue to be able to post videos up to 10 minutes long through our professional publisher tools’.

The option to share longer videos is coming to mobile first, with Twitter promising that the feature will be coming to Twitter for Mac and Twitter for Windows soon.
Vine is Twitter’s first attempt at video, which allowed users to upload 6-second looping videos you can share on its own social network. Twitter has advised that the option to upload longer videos will be hitting Vine too saying ‘Starting with a small group, creators will be able to add a video (up to 140 seconds) to their Vine, turning the six second Vine into a trailer for a bigger story’.
If you want to get in on sharing longer videos, grab Twitter from Google Play and start filming.
