Let’s face it, over the last few years Chrome on the desktop has been getting to be a bit of a battery hog, but Google likes things to be lean and mean, so they’re fixing that with the release of Chrome version 53 for desktops. But don’t worry Chrome mobile users, you’re getting mobile payments.
The Chrome power consumption issues have been highlighted to much delight by competitor Microsoft who showed off how efficient their new Edge browser is on Windows 10. Edge isn’t great for other things, but power consumption it seems to do pretty well. So Google isn’t letting that go unheeded.
Chrome is, according to Google more than 15 percent faster on both desktop and Android than it was a year ago, it’s also more power efficient, with Google demonstrating the extra battery savings between Chrome 46 and Chrome 53 in a new video:
Google has advised that ‘Chrome for Mac now uses 33 percent less power for everything from videos and images to simple page scrolling’ – pretty impressive.
The power management seems mostly focused on desktop, but mobile users aren’t left out in this update. Google has added support for Android Pay on Chrome Mobile with support for the PaymentRequest web standard included. So if you have Android Pay, you’re all set ready to pay.
