Stan, the streaming video service which is a joint venture of Nine Entertainment Co. and Fairfax Media has announced they’re finally bringing the ability to download content for offline viewing as well as offering 4K video streaming.
The announcement today says the ability to download videos to view offline will be coming in March, while the 4K video streaming will start in April. While offline content will be an option in both the Android and iOS apps, 4K streaming will only work on ‘2015 and 2016 model Samsung and LG TVs, as well as PS4 Pro’, though Stan promises that more options will come later this year.
Offline content viewing came to competitor Netflix in December last year, so it’s quite a fast update for an Australian provider.
Offline content will include the upcoming revival of Twin Peaks, as well as Jim Carrey’s new show I`m Dying Up Here and other shows like Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Mozart In The Jungle and Transparent.
We’ll be looking forward to checking out the new option when it arrives next month.
Android TV app? Even the defunct Presto was able to provide one.
Their policy limiting the number of devices allowed and the rate at which you can remove them is too limiting. Until they fix this, no dice.
4K?? Their “HD” isn’t even that great!
What about offline viewing for the Windows app….I want to watch Stan on the plane on my Surface!
