Facebook has been trying on a number of fronts to improve the quality of its news feed, taking out fake news, promoting stuff that’s likely to be real, but it still suffers from one problem — discovering new content. Like Twitter before it, Facebook is now seemingly embarking on a more curated-content path, creating easier ways for users to discover new content, and new people/pages to follow for interesting and unique things.
We were alerted to this earlier today, and we’ve now seen the feature on our phones, but what is it? It’s a new Explore tab, and it’s showing up on Android in the last day or so, though iOS users don’t seem to have it just yet. Here’s how it looks:
What’s in the new Explore tab? As you can see above, it’s the kind of stuff you may already see people sharing onto your feed, with content on mine from places like The LAD Bible, various Football clubs, a couple of Airlines and more. No doubt, it’s created based on your interests rather than someone personally curating content (like say Twitter Moments), but it’s not a bad way of discovering something interesting to read while bored.
Facebook don’t seem to have officially announced the feature just yet, so there may be more to it. For now, though, let us know if you’ve seen it on your Facebook app, and what you’ve found in there.
